With yesterday’s postponed Bartercard Coffs to Paradise Yacht Race, Drew Carruthers Sayer 11, Runaway were eager for today’s lighter weather conditions in Southport Yacht Club’s 2016 Bartercard Sail Paradise Yacht Race. Runaway is light and fast and particular favourable for light winds. Originally built by yacht designer John Sayer, Runaway carriers water ballast in the wings for improved speed efficiency.
Purchased by Drew Carruthers in later 2014, the now skipper races her fully crewed from Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Manly. Performing well in her first category 2 outing under Drew’s ownership, Runaway won her PHS and ORCi division and second (2nd) PHS overall and third (3rd) ORCi overall in the 2015 Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race.
“Runaway is a great fun vessel to sail, however I believe she is yet to reach her full potential, I look forward to seeing her improved performance in Southport Yacht Club’s Bartercard Coffs to Paradise Yacht Race in early January” said Drew.
Drew added, “myself and the crew love competing in Queensland yachting events, and we are very much looking forward to this new calendar event”.
