SCHOOL HOLIDAY SAILING PROGRAM
Get the kids out of the house and on the water these school holidays!
We run School Holiday Sailing for youth aged 7-17 every school holidays.

FAMILY FUN SAILING
KIDS LEARN TO SAIL (ages 7-12)
Kids Learn to Sail is a program aimed at getting more primary school-aged kids sailing at clubs and centres across the country. Everything about Tackers is centered on understanding how kids learn skills and have fun through sports. The boats used in the Tackers program are small and easy to handle, designed to be sailed by children under the age of 12.
Kids Learn to Sail is delivered at three levels:
Level 1 – Having Fun
Level 2 – Tricks & Techniques
Level 3 – Sailing Fast!
Each program consists of:
– 20 hours of tuition from qualified Australian Sailing Instructors
– Combination of on-the-water and off-the-water games
– Certificate of achievement at the end of the course

TEEN LEARN TO SAIL (ages 12-17)
Teen Learn to Sail is an opportunity for 12 – 17-year-olds looking to try something new on the water, the Teen Learn to Sail program offers a fantastic way to experience sailing, have fun, make new friends and learn exciting and valuable skills that will help you both now and in the future. Teen Learn to Sail is open to all – you don’t have to have sailed before. In most cases, you will be on the water from day one as part of a group with an instructor close at hand. What you will learn to control: RS Quest Dinghy, Laser Dinghy, Hobie Wave Catamaran, Techno Windsurf, Stand Up Paddle Boards, Keelboats and Powerboats.
Dates: 26th April – 7th June 2025 (7 Sessions)
Times:
Morning Session Saturdays, 8:30am – 11:30am
OR
Afternoon Session Saturdays, 12pm – 3pm
Cost: $365 per child

YOUTH SQUADS
Youth Squads are made up of youth aged 7-17 who have recently completed a learn to sail program
or are competent sailors and are ready for more advanced coaching, training and racing.
Youth Squads run out of Hollywell Sailing Squadron on Thursdays 4pm-6pm, Saturdays and Sundays.
Sailors must be SYC Cadet Member to join a Squad
Junior Fleet (ages 7-14) (Kids new to open water and racing) (Dinghies)
Out There Fleet (ages 12-17) (Teens new to open-water and racing) (Catamarans)
Youth Sailing Team (ages 7-17) (Intermediate)
Youth Race Team (ages 7-17) (Open)

Looking to buy a boat?
Our Sailing Teams are made up of Optimists and ILCA (Lasers)
Those under the age of 14 should look at purchasing an Optimist, those 14+ or 50kg+ should look at the ILCA
Check out the NB Sail Sports website for all New and Used boats, spare parts, and Regatta Charters
We also recommend Facebook Marketplace or chatting to our Academy Coaches and Parents for insights
Those starting in Out There Fleet we recommend the Nacra 3 or Nacra 4.5 Catamarans
New to Racing? Here are a few tips:
- Click the link for your class of boat (Off the Beach Dinghy Racing or Off the Beach Catamaran Racing)
- Read the Sailing Instructions
- Ask your Coach how to start
- Talk to the Race Officer and Divisional Rep for further guidance on racing (contact details in Sailing Instructions)
- Show up and give it a go! There’s a first time for everything!
Where the Youth Squad schedule runs is in line with the school term, racing has its own schedule and runs year-round.

PRIVATE LESSONS
If the above course dates don’t necessarily fit in with your schedule we can certainly tailor-make a course around your availability with private lessons either during the week or on weekends. Private lessons are also great for sailors who would like someone on one coaching in their own boats with their own crews, or for families combining juniors and adults on the same boat. Fees are based on an hourly rate, and we have a number of Yachting Australia Accredited Sailing Instructors to choose from, including past World Champions and our High-Performance Racing team. Private lessons run at $160 for 2 hours for Non-Members and $130 for 2hrs for Members.
Private lessons run Tuesday – Sunday from 9 am – 2 pm

Terms and Conditions
BOOKING PROCEDURE: Payment in full is required to confirm your booking. All courses are subject to minimum and maximum enrolments in order to proceed and early bookings are strongly advised to avoid disappointment. In the event that a scheduled session is abandoned due to weather or other factors alternative sessions will be scheduled at no extra cost, “Catch up sessions” will not be available due to each course being specific to weather so cannot be offered. REFUND POLICY: In the event that a client unilaterally withdraws from a booked course, we reserve the right to it hold all or part of any fees paid. Alternatively a client may transfer their payment towards another course if we are able to fill their position on the course. If less than 14 days notice is given of intention to withdraw we reserve the right to withhold the payed 50% Deposit.
