This morning the board of the SYC met to determine the Clubs position on the new covid 19 guidelines announced by the Prime Minister last night.
After good debate, it was decided that all organised sailing events be put on hold until further notice….effective immediately.
It was a difficult decision to make as sailing is certainly outdoors, in the sunshine and potentially good for one’s health. However, it would be socially irresponsible for the SYC to encourage a gathering whether its indoors or (in our case) outdoors.
This decision in NO WAY stops individuals using their vessels as the marina and carpark are still open (at this stage).
We appreciate the disappointment most of you are feeling over this decision but would encourage you all to stay positive and spare a thought for the thousands of workers that have been displaced across many industries at the moment.
The SYC board will be monitoring all announcements by governing bodies and will inform you as changes come to hand.
Our goal will be to get back on the water with organised events as soon as possible.
Please stay safe and let’s hope this situation improves faster than we all anticipate.
