SYC Sailors National Championship Results
49er Nationals
Joel Turner and team member Dave Gilmour took out the tri-fector, with back to back wins at all three competitions consisting of Sail Melbourne, followed by Sail Sydney then finally the 49er Nationals in Brisbane.
Tom Siganto and Charlie Wyatt also finished on podium in second place with another SYC team member Tom Cunich and crew, placed 7th overall.
Sabot Nationals
Angus Sherring in Dark Side of the Moon has come 2nd in the 1up division at the 54th Sabot National Titles held at Darling Point Sailing Squadron in Brisbane. Newcomer to the Sabot, Finn Harris in Hiccup came 39th in his first Nationals and Jackson Foort in Sab-A-Tack in 42nd place. In the 2up junior Division Tom and Sophie Whitmore finished on podium in 2nd place.
2018 Australian and Oceania Laser Championships
Five members of the SYC Performance Team contested the 2018 Australian and Oceania Laser Championships held at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. All performed well in their respective divisions with variable conditions. Tom Wright fought hard to get 4th Australian Youth Male in the 4.7 Class and Junior Commodore Melanie Watson also ended up with 4th Australian Youth Female in the Radial Class. Leigh Lomas in his Radial “Sun Bed” after having to pull out of the last days racing due to injury still had a great result of 5th Australian Junior Male in the Radial Class. Sam Martland 7th Australian Youth Male in the 4.7 Class and Dylan Lynch in the hotly contested Male Youth Radial division finished in a very credible 19th position.
Nacra 15 Nationals
Ashleigh Swadling and George Morton competed at the 2018 Nacra 15 Nationals Championships held at the Humpybong Yacht Club. Finishing in second place after a count back with a tied first place finish, the four-day regatta is an all-important lead up event to the 2018 Oceania Nacra 15 Championships which is the qualifying regatta to be eligible for selection into the Australian Youth Sailing team for the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in October 2018.

2018 Australian Open Bic Championships
Morton Bay Boat Club put on a fantastic regatta for the 2018 Australian Open Bic Championships. Three of our Junior Saillor’s competed with Oscar Gray in Xtreme Sports came 33rd, Frankie Fisher in 35th in the gold Fleet, In the Silver Fleet Lachlan O’Gorman came 5th.
2018 Optimist Australian Championships.
Six days of very competitive sailing at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron saw Harry Hogan in his Optimist “Houdini” got a podium finish in 3rd place in Green Fleet. Teegan Mitchell in Tally Ho Tiger came 35th out of a very strong field of 48 sailors.
In the Intermediate Division Jack O’Hagan in 51st and Andy Douyere in 70th position in the large field of 76 boats.
In his last Optimist Nationals our leading skipper for 2016/2017 Blake Wilson in Bougainvillea came 7th and 1st Queenslander in the Open Division Gold Fleet. Isaac Schotte in 20th position, Austin Cross in 41st, Angus Wheatley in 62nd. In the Open Division Silver Fleet, Adelaide Pullin in 37th place, Lachlan Wheatley in 60th, Ben Lincoln in 66th and Hudson McKee in 67th position.
