This Week In Sailing - 22nd February 2024

Another busy week in sailing last week. Kicking off the week of racing with the Inshore Jams Race on Wednesday and as always good to see a good number of boats on the water with Darren Moar on Ocean Racer Chaser taking out first place in Division 1 and in Division 2. We had Neil Rowsthorn on Full Muppet Racing Co. On Thursday, we had our Twilighters out sailing followed by a few quiet ones back in the Clubhouse (or not so quiet). Taking out the Inshore Twilight race was Steve Furlong on Saskia II offshores winner was Barry Schoonenberg on Makani.

Rolling into Saturday we had both Inshore and OTBC Passage Series taking out the race for the Inshore Division was Neil Rowsthorn on Full Muppet Racing Co and for the OTBC was Division 1 Robert Wibaux on Seven, Division 3 was Phil-Kellond-Knight on Rumpleteaser. Kicking off Sunday we had an Offshore Passage Race and OTBD Sprints Series racing.

We also want to congratulate the SYC sailors who competed at the Big River Regatta, Laser Masters and those who are currently competing in the OK Dinghy World Championships. In the Sailing Academy, we had Homeschool groups at both Oxenford and Hollywell, Silkwood School, Sailing Team, Sailing Racing Team, Tackers 1, Tackers 2, Tackers 3, Junior Fleet, Out There Sailing 1, Out There Sailing 2, Out There Sailing 3, Adult Learn to Sail and Sunday Squad. A total of 204 participants were in training last week which is a relatively quiet week for us as Australia’s Largest Discover Sailing Centre.

As always we look forward to what’s next and we are excited for the highly anticipated Burleigh Bash this weekend which was postponed from last year. It is a rare opportunity for our members and sailors to bribe, sandbag, muck around and be rewarded for it.
