THIS WEEK @ OXENFORD WATERSPORT CENTRE AND SQUAD UPDATE
By: Amber Hudson
Its week 5 of the Out There Fleet at SYC Hollywell, the students sailed Hobie and club Nacra catamarans this week, working on using their tell tales upwind and on shifting their weight in the back of the boat during a bear away around the top mark to avoid nose-diving in the catamarans.
It’s also week 6 of the youth learn to sail programs at SYC Oxenford. The Out There Saturday groups were working on racks and gybes in the heavy wind in the morning group, and in the afternoon group we were working on applying port/starboard rules of the road.
We couldn’t be happier to see our young sailors progress from our Out There Saturday programs at Oxenford Lake to Hollywell and onwards to their bright sailing futures!

SAILOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to Lewis Falconer who is Sailor of the Week! We asked Lewis to tell us his story…
“I started sailing regularly when I was about 8 or 9, but have been sailing boats since I was younger. I started sailing with my dad. He got my brothers into sailing. I watched them sailing which got me into it. I have only really sailed Open Bic and Laser classes. I have had a go on a Farr40. It was really good. I am working on being more consistent with my sailing and being able to sail and hike for longer times. Fitness is definitely an important part of sailing which I have been working on recently.
My sailing goals are to have fun and go into bigger boats. Being able to sail around the county on bigger boats would be great. I really want to learn and improve my sailing ability on keelboats. I do like the competitive side of sailing but for me, sailing is all about the social side of things then the competitive side. I like both the competitive side and social side of sailing. I do prefer the social side as it builds friendships which is good.”
Well done Lewis, we’re excited for the next stage of your sailing future!
