SYC SAILING DUO MAKE THE NATIONALS YOUTH SQUAD!
Congratulations to our sailing duo Emerson Wheeler and Ross Beedle who have been selected for the 2025 Australian Sailing Youth Squad, in the 29er class, after a stellar season in the two-person high performance sailing skiff.
Emerson and Ross are the only Queensland team to make the 29er squad. The national squad selection will see the boys supported by Olympic class coaches and are heading to Melbourne in April for a national training camp to prepare them to represent Australia at the World Championship level!
HANSA WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIPS on SYDNEY PITTWATER
GARRY HOLT’s WINS ORC AT THE 180th SAILFEST IN NEWCASTLE!
Congratulations to Garry Holt and his crew on ‘Lets Get It On Filabe’ for his ORC win at the 6th annual SailFest Newcastle Regatta over the weekend. Light airs, heavy airs, harbour starts and choppy windward-leewards dominated the regatta, for more coverage of SailFest, please click here.
65th MAROOCHY HEAD OF THE RIVER 2025 on the SUNSHINE COAST
Congratulations to three of our Squad who represented SYC up on the Sunshine Coast in March, Nate McCarthy, Josie Fowler and Mariella Brady. Maroochy can be challenging to navigate the 5-6nm course with sandbanks that jump out of nowhere, and fast running tides. Something our SYC are sailors all familiar with on the Broadwater.
It was a threepeat for Nate McCarthy, winning Head of the River Division 3 for the 3rd consecutive year in his ‘Biccie’, earning Line Honours and a comfortable 1st place on corrected time! And a huge congratulations also goes to Josie Fowler for her podium finishing on Opti ‘Barracuda’ in Green Fleet! Unfortunately, Mariella on ‘Sea Biscuit’ had to retire from the race.
16″ O’PEN SKIFF CHAMPIONSHIPS REGATTA IN NEWCASTLE!
Congratulations to Travis Pinter who represented SYC at the 2025 NSW O’pen Skiff Championships, held at Belmont 16ft sailing club in Newcastle. Over the two day regatta, he came 4th overall in the silver fleet of 37 sailers and came away with 1st U17 silver fleet!
Travis will be heading back down south in a few weeks for the NSW CHS sailing championships.

SYC ACADEMY
Sailing at Oxenford By Ashlea Kernahan
This past weekend, we wrapped up our Term 1 Learn to Sail courses with an exciting pirate-themed finale for both the Kids Learn to Sail and Teen Learn to Sail programs. The kids had a blast taking their parents out on the Hobie Catamarans to showcase their sailing skills, creating a fun and memorable experience for all. The team provided a delicious BBQ, and our Associates team, who support our 2-for-1 deal and help make these courses possible, joined us to present the kids and teens with their well-deserved certificates. Congratulations to all our young sailors, and a big thank you to the parents for their support throughout the term!
Adult Learn to Sail:
Our Adult Learn to Sail course kicked off this past Sunday with just under 18 participants. We’re excited to welcome a new group of sailors this April and look forward to helping them develop their sailing skills over the coming weeks. It’s shaping up to be an exciting journey for all involved!
School Holiday Sailing:
Our School Holiday Sailing Program is just around the corner, starting in two weeks! Our instructors are busy getting everything ready for a fun-filled and educational experience for kids. Sessions will be available in half-day for $50 and full-day for $80, giving young sailors the opportunity to enjoy the water while developing their skills. We’re excited to welcome kids of all experience levels to join us for some sailing fun these holidays!

Sailor of the Week;
This week, we’re excited to celebrate Lulu Pierce as our Sailor of the Week! Lulu recently joined us in Tackers 1 and has been a true superstar. From day one, she’s shown incredible enthusiasm and a natural aptitude for sailing. Her dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to learn have made her a standout in the program. We’re thrilled to see Lulu’s progress and can’t wait to watch her continue to shine on the water. Keep up the fantastic work, Lulu!
