TEAM UPDATE
EASTERN SEABOARD REGATTA, PATTAYA, THAILAND
4 of SYC’s Academy sailors have just competed in Thailand!
Whilst we’ve been hosting the
Hansa Class Asia Pacific Championships last week, Addie & Lyla Greenwood, and Evie and Jack Mcquire have done themselves, their families, our club and their country proud in the Silver Fleet at the 16th Eastern Seaboard Regatta at
Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya, their first international Optimist regatta. Addie placed 19th and 1st AUS female, Jack 25th, Evie 33rd, and Lyla 53rd.
All four sailors have progressed significantly since starting with a Tackers 1 course at Oxenford in 2021, competing at every opportunity since including:
• Green Fleet at Youth Sail QLD 2022
• Green Fleet Opti Nationals Jan 2023 Pittwater NSW
• Open Opti States 2023, Humpybong QLD
• Open Opti Nationals 2024, Brighton Seacliff SA
• 2024 QLD Youth Sail in Open Fleet
Their training will now continue for 2024 QLD Opti States in early Dec, Sail Brisbane in late December and Opti Nationals in January 2025 all at
Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
The Burleigh Bash has been run and won for 2024! 16 boats had a great day out on Sunday, with a northerly sporting a spinnaker and goosewing run down to our Burleigh Mark, before a punching return to the Sand Bypass Jetty and race to our Main Beach Clubhouse. Congratulations to our 2024 prize winners:

Sailing at Oxenford By Ashlea Kernahan
This weekend, our 5th session for Term 4 Learn to Sail courses kicked off with all our sailors tackling the Capsizing drills.
The weather provided perfect winds and sun for our Tackers and OutThere sailors, we love seeing all our sailors having an absolute blast each week!
Family Fun Sessions
The weather provided a perfect Family Fun session with 4 families joining us for an amazing day on the water.

Adult Learn to Sail
Our Sold Out Adult Learn to Sail November crew had their first session for their course and already showing great skills! Over 18 Sailors took to the Water and nailed it!

She Sails
This Sunday the monthly She Sails event saw over 8 returning and new participants for some fun on the lake sailing hobie wave catamarans and RS Quests.
The weather was fantastic and really provided for a great day of sailing.

Sailor of the week
Toby Pendergast has been selected as this week’s Sailor of the Week!
Toby began his sailing adventure in our Tackers program back in 2018 and could not get enough!
He quickly progressed to our Hollywell sailing squadron in our Thursday Racing Team. Toby demonstrates his dedication to sailing, his team, and his willingness to help others.
