Southport Yacht Club sailor’s success at National Regattas.
A busy start to 2015 for Southport Yacht Club (SYC) sailors. Four (4) of SYC’s sailors travelled to Sorrento, Victoria for the 2015 International Moth Australian and World Titles Championships. Congratulation to Brian Sherring, second (2nd) in the World Championships for the Scow Moth division, Jack Sherring, three (3) time youth world champion, placed 55th competing against 79 in the World Gold Fleet Division, Zane Comadira, sixth (6th) Foiler and second (2nd) in Australia for Silver Fleet division and Alex Toomey, 35th Foiler in Australia for the Silver Fleet Division.
The O’Pen BIC Nationals were this year held at Sandringham Yacht Club in Victoria, three Southport Yacht Club sailors travelled to the event, all receiving some very impressive results. George Moreton in the Gold Fleet competed to finish third (3rd) overall, and third (3rd) in under 16’s, Dylan Lynch also in the Gold Fleet, competing against 52 sailors finishing 48th, and 30th also in under 16’s. In the Silver fleet, SYC was also represented with Luka Whibourn competing amongst 31 competitors to finish 19th.
Other divisions were also represented across Australia with Bill Gardyne finishing 31st at the 2015 A-Class Catamaran National Championships at Lake Cootharaba, Queensland, Noel Leigh-Smith and Ben Leigh-Smith finishing eighth (8th) overall at the Australian Sports Boat Championships, Tim Jackman seventh (7th) and Scott Jones 11th at the RL24 Nationals held at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Queensland.
SYC was also represented internationally at the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, held in Malaysia. Kelvin Holdt and Peter Merten competing to finish second (2nd) overall in their division.
