What is the difference between Social Sailing and Boat Hire?
Social Sailing sessions are guided experiences run with qualified instructors who assist participants both on and off the water throughout the session. These sessions are ideal for beginners, families and anyone looking for a relaxed and social sailing experience.
Boat Hire offers a more independent experience where participants receive a short safety and sailing briefing before heading out on the water. Safety boats are not on the water during standard hire sessions. During stronger wind conditions, prior sailing experience is required for boat hire participants.
Do I need sailing experience?
No experience is required. Our qualified instructors will guide you through the basics and help you feel comfortable on the water throughout your session.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is our priority. If there are any local lightning, hail or gale wind warnings in place, training will not proceed.
Sessions may be postponed or rescheduled where possible. In some cases, land-based theory or tactical sessions may be delivered instead of on-water training, depending on conditions.
We closely monitor local weather updates and will communicate with families if any changes are required.
What should I bring?
We recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, sunglasses, towel and clothes that can get wet. Shoes that can get wet such as sandals, crocs or old sneakers are also recommended.
Can we book as a group?
Absolutely. Social Sailing is perfect for families, friend groups, birthdays, team outings and special occasions. Private group bookings may also be available on request academy@sycgc.com.au
