SURF TO CITY YACHT RACE 2023 (SSSA)
This past weekend was the 30th anniversary of the annual Surf to City Yacht Race, organised and hosted by the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club assisted by SYC. This race consists of two fleets, both Inshore and Offshore starting and finishing at the same place.

Busy Boats

The end of the school holidays has seen us busy at SYC Oxenford. Private boat and stand-up paddle hires, Adult Learn to Sail, Tackers 1 and Out There Sailing Level 1 fast track courses. It’s been exciting to see the interest in sailing develop across age groups and genders. We would also like to praise one of our young female sailing mentors, Gabby Latter, who stepped up with a moment’s notice to deliver a lesson to the teenagers in Out There Sailing Level 1 on the Wind Window, great job Gabby!
She Sails 2023
The first event of the year was another success for continuing to introduce females to the joy of sailing. We are finding a lot of women love the casual format and experience, one of our participants said she felt like she’d found her ‘tribe’, what a huge compliment to the She Sails Team!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has and plans on becoming a regular She Sails Team volunteer. It is thanks to your help that we can offer female participants a stress-free and fun experience of learning to sail for the first time.
As we steadily develop our social She Sails events, we also have begun to develop what is on offer. On Sunday 19th February we are holding a split event with half the group doing SUP Fitness followed by Sailing and the other half doing Windsurfing. On Sunday 26th March we will be running our first joint junior (7-14yrs) and adult (14yrs+) She Sails event.

1hr Session times are 10-11am and 11am-Noon
Participants can only register for one event. Giving youth an opportunity to try sailing before committing to join us for a course.
- Tackers 1 & Out There Sailing Level 1
Beginner sailing for ages 7-12yrs (Tackers 1) and 12-17yrs (Out There) starting Saturday 4th February 2023 from 8.30-11.30am
- Tackers 2 & 3
Sailing for ages 7-12yrs who have already completed the courses prior starting Saturday 4th February from Noon-3pm
- Squad & Junior Fleet (SYC Hollywell)
Squad starting Thursday 2nd February 2023 from 4-6pm
Junior Fleet Starting Saturday 28th January 2023 from 10am-Noon
