BARTERCARD SAIL PARADISE REGATTA 2023 SETS SAIL WITH THRILLING YACHT RACING ON OUR DOORSTEP
Get ready for an adrenaline-packed spectacle as Southport Yacht Club presents the highly-anticipated Bartercard Sail Paradise Regatta from Saturday, September 30th, 2023, to Monday, October 2nd, 2023, delivering an unforgettable experience with offshore sailing at its finest.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Gold Coast’s golden beaches, Bartercard Sail Paradise will see more than 50 yachts compete in this multi-day regatta that will bring together sailing enthusiasts, competitors, and spectators for an action-packed celebration of the sport.
The regatta’s courses are strategically laid out between Main Beach and the Queensland/NSW border, providing participants with challenging conditions and opportunities to showcase their sailing prowess and spectators will be captivated by the thrilling closeness of the races.
The 14th Bartercard Sail Paradise also offers a rich program of onshore festivities and Southport Yacht Club extends a warm invitation to Gold Coast residents and visitors alike to join in the pre and post-race fun during the regatta. Experience the excitement up close and personal, and get the chance to view the race yachts as they gracefully return to the marina each evening at the Club’s state-of-the-art $9 million Super Yacht Berth.
Spectators are invited down to watch the brand-new Parade in Paradise at 9:00am Saturday where all of the fleet will be dressed up and ‘parade’ their vessels past SYC Waterfront Restaurant’s main deck before commencing racing.
Vice Commodore of Sailing, Glenn Burrell says “We’re thrilled to host the BARTERCARD Sail Paradise Regatta 2023, an event that brings together the passion of sailing with the beauty of the Gold Coast.”
“With the depth of talent within the entries, this regatta promises to be an unforgettable experience for sailors and spectators alike. It’s a true celebration of our love for ocean racing and the camaraderie it fosters.” He adds.

So come and join us at Oxenford Watersports Centre for a social sailing session with the support of a safety boat and instructor. Learn the basics and enjoy a social sausage sizzle at the end. Everyone is welcome. Sessions are held monthly, and bookings are required with a minimum of 6 participants to run.

SAILOR of the WEEK
Congratulations to Addison Greenwood who is our Sailor of the Week this week! Here’s our interview with Addison…
“I began sailing at the end of 2021 after watching the amazing sailing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. My dad grew up sailing and racing and has an absolute passion for this sport, luckily I have the same passion now! I completed Tackers 1, 2 and 3 with SYC Oxenford, moving to SYC Hollywell for junior fleet in September 2022. I am now a member of the Racing Squad team. I began racing with my first Green Fleet entry at QLD Youth Champs 2022, followed by Sail Brisbane 2022, Opti Nationals 2023, Sail Airlie 2023 and Humpybong Women & Girls Regatta 2023.
I have my own Optimist dinghy, Wizz Fizz. I like to head out with my dad on his Paper Tiger as well.
Racing starts, working with stronger winds, tactical racing within the rules.
A great result at Optimist State Titles, I am entering my first Open Fleet at the end of the month at this event at Humpybong and then will be preparing for Optimist Nationals in Open Fleet in Adelaide in January 2024.
I love competing, and the social side of sailing.”
Thanks for a great interview Addison, we can’t wait to see where your sailing future will take you!
