Keelboat Crewing & Helming Course

On the weekend a successful Keelboat Crewing and Helming course was run out of Hollywell with instructors Sam Martland and Mick Scharf using the club Melges and Club Blazer. All 8 adult participants have progressed through from the Adult Learn To Sail courses at Oxenford to Keelboat sessions at Hollywell.

Wind conditions varied from 10-22kts giving participants different experiences and challenges as both crew and helm. With their valuable prior knowledge, skills and regular participation in Keelboat sessions, everyone completed the Australian Sailing competencies to pass the course.

It’s wonderful to see the development of sailors from being complete beginners to now becoming regular faces at Southport Yacht Club both on and off the water.

Fitness on the Lake

If you love being out on the water and like the challenge of using your body in new ways, try Stand Up Paddle-boarding on Oxenford Lake!

It’s not that hard – SUPs are very stable and it’s a great total body workout for your arms (paddling), core and legs (balancing). The fitness you build on a SUP will carry over into sailing by building your agility, endurance and balance for those challenging days out on the water.

It’s a beautiful way to see Oxenford Lake, you can hire one for $20 an hour and enjoy a coffee or lunch afterwards at The Boatshed Brew cafe! To book register here.

She Sails Nov & Dec 2023

Our last two She Sails events for 2023 are now open for bookings, The booking link and details are below:

Sunday 26th November Noon-3pm

For November we have dinghies, catamarans and windsurfers available. If you have windsurfed before and want to take a rig out to practise please email Caela at info.oxenford@sycgc.com.au so she can have your gear ready to go!

Saturday 16th December Noon-3pm (ages 7yrs+)

This will be Caela’s last She Sails session at SYC Oxenford and will be our Christmas-themed session. Wear something Christmassy, bring some nibbles to share if you want to and Join us for some festive fun on the lake sailing Catamarans or (if you have tried previously) windsurfing.
