The Southport Yacht Club was well represented in South Australia over the weekend with 7 out of 100 competitors at the 2024 Musto Australian Optimist Dinghy Championship. Special mention to Nate McCarthy on ‘Splash’ who made the finals in the Gold Fleet, coming 11^th and 15^th in his 1^st and 3^rd races.

AUSTRALIAN 9er CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024, SOUTH OF PERTH YACHT CLUB

16^th Emerson Wheeler & Ross Beedle

A big week in Western Australia for Emerson Wheeler & Ross Beedle representing SYC at their first 9er nationals. It was a test of resilience and a fantastic learning opportunity including a broken charter boat (starboard bar broke off in the first race on Day 2 and they only just made it to shore) which knocked them out of all races that day. Replacement boat secured they pushed on and came 16th in the open fleet and 6th juniors.

2024 O’PEN SKIFF AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, LAKE COOTHARABA SAILING CLUB

16^th Leo Sparshott ‘Firebolt’ (Gold Fleet)

SYC is proud to have been represented by Leo Sparshott at the 2024 O’pen Skiff Australian National Championships at Noosa, in what turned out to be a great week with some gnarly conditions on Lake Cootharaba (wind peaked at 27kts!). Leo completed every one of the 14 races on ‘Fireshot’ to land Second Place in Gold Fleet under 12s, and 16^th overall.

Congratulations to our SYC Squad who were on fire in Adelaide, with Myles, Ava, Addison and Ben finishing in Gold Fleet, and Joe and Wayne finishing in Silver. A great representation of the club! Special mention to our best performers Myles Wilson who finished 9^thin ILCA6 and Ava Wilson who finished 18^th in ICLA4.
