SOUTHPORT YACHT CLUB INSHORE DIVISION – Wednesday 26th May 2021
A stunning autumn afternoon here at Hollywell on the eve of what has been termed the astronomical phenomenon of the year with skippers and crew racing under a full blood super moon.
Twenty six boats had a clean and colourful start in a light 5 knot NW breeze at 1630hrs. Spinnakers were hoisted right from the start to get underway. Despite the lack of wind, everyone was happy just to be on the water soaking up the moon beams. With the breeze not picking up at any point during the race, the Race Committee decided to shorten the course.
Congratulations OCEAN RACER CHASER in 1st place, MISTER BOJANGLES in 2nd place and TAKEN FOR GRANTED in 3rd place.
SOUTHPORT TACHT CLUB THURSDAY TWILIGHT – Thursday 27th May 2021
These are the days we love for racing. A slick SSE kissing 20 knots on the Broadwater last night.
Congratulations SHIRLEY VALENTINE crossing the finish line at 17:05:50 and taking out 1st place. When asked about his win, skipper Craig Hardy graciously looked at the bigger picture, “It is amazing how much of a difference a clean bottom and a trained crew make. This week we had a great combination of good crew, clean hull and a good wind. “Shirley Valentine” usually takes on a different crew each week, usually allocated by Steve prior to the race. We look at the twilights as a fun event where new comers can experience what sailing is about and the focus has always been having fun”.
2nd place went to INDULGENCE and all of her 50 feet. NAMASTE took out 3rd place gaining her 1st position in the TT Series Scores after Race 4.

SOUTHPORT YACHT CLUB INSHORE DIVISION – Saturday 29th May 2021
With a strong wind warning offshore, our Inshore fleet were somewhat protected within the Broadwater. The WSW winds were still up there in excess of 15 knots creating some spirited and challenging racing. It was a good turn out for our winter racing with 12 boats underway today officiated by Race Control Officer Phil “Krusty” Keir.
1st place went to 4DC’s Paul Bain and crew. 2nd place went to one of our Skuds, KAMIKAZE. Well done Neil Rowsthorn and your crew member. LICKETY SPLIT crossed the line for 3rd. A great result for Kevin Clarkson and crew, true gentlemen of the sport.

SOUTHPORT YACHT CLUB OFFSHORE DIVISION – Sunday 30th May 2021
Given the current weather conditions and forecast of a strong wind warning, our Offshore Division Race Committee decided to postpone Race 2.
The new race date has been set for next Sunday, 6th June 2021. Please refer to the attached Sailing Instruction Amendment.
