Southport Yacht Club opening launch of the Club’s fourth facility, Oxenford Watersports Centre.
Located at Regatta Waters situated within Damian Leeding Memorial Park, Oxenford. Southport Yacht Club along with the Gold Coast City Council will be launching the Club’s fourth facility, this Friday, 19th October at 4pm.
SYC invite all media and affiliated partners to join the launch with opening ceremony and proceedings commencing at 4pm.
The Club’s focus is to provide a facility with the introduction of both kids and adults learn to sail, stand up paddle boarding and all things Watersports. The Club’s fourth facility has been operational for several months with participation levels growing weekly, currently reaching close to 1,000 participants already. Over 15 local Gold Coast Schools, both Primary and Secondary have incorporated the learn to sail programs into their sports schedules. The 2018 Division 1 UniSport Nationals were also conducted by SYC on the Regatta Waters Lake late last month, showcasing the professionalism and training levels held by SYC and the introductory programs.
Another new addition to the facility, is the newly built café located in the main building adjacent to the playground. The facility introduced for additional benefit of Club members and the wider community to grab a coffee or bite to eat as they enjoy the facility and its surrounds.
“Having started this project with Councillor William Owen Jones nearly 12 months ago, I am happy to announce the launch is almost here. The team at SYC and Council have been working tirelessly around the clock to provide this facility to our Members and the Community, to help with the awareness of sailing and growth within the sport. I am extremely proud of our achievements and look forward to seeing the facility grow over the summer months ahead, thank you to everyone involved.”
“Sailing is not the Club’s only focus, stand up paddle boarding has also been introduced, along with the continuation of the rowing and outrigging Club’s already on regatta waters. The greater community and their benefits are a number one focus to SYC, and we are always looking for innovated ways in which we can bring other activities to the Gold Coast,” said SYC General Manager, Brett James.
With over 100 dignitary attendees, including local Members of Parliament, Councillors, Junior Councillors, Gold Coast School Principals and Club Members will partake in the opening with area Councillor William Owen-Jones and SYC General Manager Brett James officiating the opening.
“We are a city that is built around our waterways. Very pleased to partner with Southport Yacht Club to engage young people to get involved in sailing and water sports,” said area Councillor, William Owen-Jones.
Following the official launch on Friday 19, October, Southport Yacht Club have scheduled a FREE discover sailing day on Sunday 4th November. From 10am, Club Members along with member of the greater community are invited to come down to the venue and learn to sail, for FREE.
