This Week in Sailing – 7th March 2024

Ideal conditions showed up on the Broadwater for a competitive fleet of 15 in this year’s Evolution Sails Two Handed Race on the weekend. El Smoko was well out in front of the fleet for much of the race but rudder damage, most likely caused by an unwelcome sandbank greeting saw them retire just before finishing. Overall PHS win on corrected time was won by skipper Ella Small on Mister Bojangles, followed by Quarterflash and Wild Huntress. Congratulations to all competitors. Full Results here

SAILOR OF THE WEEK

For his continual dedication and persistence in his sailing, and his ongoing volunteering at Oxenford Lake and Hollywell Sailing Squad.
Finn has sailed with SYC over the past 2 years, Learning through the Tackers: Kids Learn to Sail and Out There: Teen Learn to Sail programs, and is now sailing an Optimist in the Sailing Team
His first Regatta was Youth Sail QLD at Keppel Bay Sailing Club last September 2023 and is working towards competing again this year.
He has been instrumental in the delivery of our Learn to Sail programs, acting as the right-hand man for Instructor Ben Stroebel on Tackers 3 Sundays at Oxenford Lake. As well as providing all-round support to all our classes and teams throughout the term.
