Junior Sailor of the Week
| Lucas Steadman | Age: 11 | Sailing Since 2020 |
This weeks Sailor of the week is Lucas Steadman.
Lucas recently volunteered to play our Man Overboard Dummy in our club training for Capsize Recovery and Man Over Boardand as always – did the job well and with a dash of humour :).
Lucas is one of our Squad Sailors and our youngest Mentor.
His comedic nature brings with it a jolly atmosphere and positive cultural influence.
We all know that MOB training is not funny but Lucas always brings a sense of humor with his responsibilities and we love him for it.
Lucas has been a huge help across many of our Learn To sail Programs and was recently on hand to help at the Gold Coast Show.
Lucas is confident and consistently takes on extra responsibilities in a leadership role – he is always ready and willing to learn more and help out where needed – love love love!!
Thank you Lucas!

Lake Cootharaba Junior Allboats Regatta
Wrap up by Matthew Sinnamon – Junior Vice Commodore
“Six SYC sailors participated in the Lake Cootharaba Junior Allboats regatta over the weekend of August 27–28th.
There were five races in total sailed by the juniors. For sailors coming from SYC, the first day of sailing on Lake Cootharaba was considerably different.
Many of us had never experienced sailing in a lake with such shallow water, but we quickly familiarised ourselves with the area.
Three races were sailed on the Saturday and with each race we learnt more about the lake.
On the Sunday that followed while we waited for the wind to pick up, playing ping pong games were a great way to pass the time.
The ping pong equipment at Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club had all nine junior sailors surrounding the table having fun.
Just as sailing for the day was about to be abandoned, the wind sprang up, and we all quickly jumped into the water to complete two more races.
The results have been previously published. Overall, it was a great weekend had by all and we look forward to sailing there again.”
