THIS WEEK @ OXENFORD WATERSPORT CENTRE AND SQUAD UPDATE
By: Michaela Hanson
This week was our second week of school holiday sailing fun at SYC Oxenford with record numbers attending. The sun was out and with light 10kts of breeze, instructors could utilise stand-up paddle boards and run a variety of sailing activities and games on the Hobie wave catamarans and quests. Participants, parents and instructors had a fabulous time out on the lake.
SYC Oxenford hosted an Australian Sailing instructor and Discover Sailing training in a focus conference over the weekend. The event provided professional development on and off the water, it gave participants the opportunity to provide feedback direct to Australian Sailing and the opportunity to network with other members of clubs from Urunga NSW up to the Sunshine Coast.

SAILOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to Alistair Kelly who is sailor of the week. Alistair began his sailing career through the tackers program at Darwin Sailing Club in 2021. He joined SYC in 2022 and took part in Junior Fleet, the Out There Sailing and the Home School Programs. The current Winter Series is his first competition series and he is enjoying a steep learning curve on his O’pen Bic “Rascal”. He joined his family on Kokomo during the 50th RL24 Nationals in January working the bow as the only other family member trained on the spinnaker.
He is continuing to crew on Kokomo and unlike his dad he has never grounded Kokomo while on the tiller. Alistair loves the social side of sailing and has his eyes on future sailing catamarans and/or crewed boats like the NS14. Well done Alistair, we look forward to seeing where your sailing journey takes you.
