AUSTRALIAN WOMENS KEELBOAT REGATTA – Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron: 7th-9th July
BRISBANE VALLEY WINTER MARATHON – WIVENHOE DAM – 7th July
Well done to SYC Opti sailors Jozee Fowler & Mariella Brady at the 2025 Wivenhoe Winter Marathon hosted by Brisbane Valley Sailing Club this weekend!
A 1st for Jozee & 2nd for Mariella in Division 6. Well done young ladies!
FLAT ROCK YACHT RACE 2025
The postponed and rescheduled Flat Rock Yacht Race was run and won over the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show weekend. Clear weather yet plenty of jostling up towards Point Lookout at the northern end of North Stradbroke provided some challenging and slow conditions for this year’s very small fleet. Race Presentation will be held this Thursday 29th May after Twilight racing at Main Beach.

CORAL SEA BLUE WATER POINTSCORE SERIES
Southport Yacht Club has launched a blue water pointscore, combining four of our special events into an overall annual series! Earning a fantastic perpetual trophy, the Coral Sea Pointscore Series Winner will be determined by the lowest IRC points score result over the series, with scores accumulated over the four races with one race drop. The four races included in the 2025/2026 season are:
Flat Rock Yacht Race, 66nm, – May 24, 2025 GCCM Gold Coast Mackay Yacht Race, 520nm, Aug 1 2025 Cook Island yacht Race, 35nm, – Nov 2, 2025 Julian Rocks Yacht Race, 85nm, – Mar 14 2026
SYC ACADEMY
With Term 2 officially wrapped up, there were no Learn to Sail sessions running this week at Oxenford. Instead, our team was busy behind the scenes preparing for our upcoming School Holiday Sailing Program, launching June 30.
Our OutThere Fleet wrapped up their final session at Hollywell Sailing Squadron, enjoying new scenery and some great final races to close out the term.
Meanwhile, some of our team attended the Australian Sailing Summit in Brisbane, where we connected with other clubs and gathered exciting new ideas to continue developing our Academy programs.
We also saw the final session of the June Adult Learn to Sail course — congratulations to all who completed it!
Academy Squad News
We’re incredibly proud to share some exciting news about two of our Academy sailors who have achieved national-level recognition:
Addison McGuire has been selected to represent Australia in the Optimist Australian Development Squad, and will travel to Singapore later this year with some of the world’s top junior sailors.
Jack McGuire has been selected to compete as part of the Australian Optimist Team travelling to Thailand in October. Jack will begin squad training in Adelaide this July as part of his preparation for the event.
Both Addison and Jack have grown through our programs at Southport Yacht Club, and we are thrilled to see their hard work and passion for sailing recognised at an international level.
Family Social Day at Hollywell – Sunday, June 15
On Sunday, June 15, we hosted our Family Social Day at the Hollywell Sailing Squadron, welcoming Oxenford sailors and their families to explore the next step in their sailing journey. Families had the chance to witness live club racing, connect with the broader sailing community, and see everything Hollywell has to offer. It was a fantastic day filled with energy and excitement — thank you to all who came along and made it so special!
Sailor of the Week – James Sun (Tackers 2)
This week we’re recognising James Sun from our Tackers 2 group!
James has shown incredible progression throughout Term 2 and ended the season with great control and confidence on the water.
